A Turkish professor is alarmed by the enormous danger in the Bosphorus

A professor at Istanbul University has revealed alarming information about the Bosphorus Strait ecosystem. The risk to human life is huge, said Prof. Gulshen Altug, Fakti.bg writes.

She is an expert in marine biology. Altug said the seabed of the Bosphorus is full of fishing tackle, which poses a threat to marine species and humans. At the bottom, she said, there are large amounts of lead, which over time dissolves in salt water.

Lead from fishing tackle can adversely affect fish habitat. “When we eat this fish, we take in a carcinogen in our body,” said Gulshen Altug. Local fishing rod seller Serkan Eser said he sells more than 100kg of fishing rod sinker each month.

Fishing rods that fall into the water are not at all harmless to the ecosystem, because tons of lead accumulate as they accumulate on the seabed. Damage to the ecosystem is caused not only by amateur fishermen, but also by professionals. Prof. Gulshen Altug said that serious attention should be paid to this problem.

The Bosphorus, which separates the European part of Turkey from the Asian, is a favorite fishing spot for many. However, the price of this pleasure can be high.
