Of the 188 new cases of Covid-19 infection detected last day, almost half or 84 are registered in Riga, according to data compiled by the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (SPKC).
The information at the disposal of the SPKC shows that 58 have been infected from known sources of infection, seven have been infected abroad (Belarus, Russia, Finland, Turkey, Greece), and the rest of the infection conditions are still being clarified.
The total 14-day cumulative number of cases in the capital has increased to 687 inhabitants.
Also, 13 new patients have been registered in Vecpiebalga municipality, where the number of detected cases has reached 82 inhabitants in the last two weeks.
11 new cases have been registered in Krāslava municipality and the total number of cases in the municipality in the last 14 days has increased to 94 inhabitants.
Ten newly infected people were registered in Daugavpils, where the cumulative number of 14-day cases has increased to 145 inhabitants and this is the second largest number of cases after Riga.
Nine new infected people were registered in Liepaja, but eight – in Ogre region. In Liepāja, the cumulative number of 14-day illnesses has increased to 15, but in Ogre region – to 22 inhabitants.
Newly infected people were also found in Jēkabpils, Jelgava, Valmiera, Rēzekne, Salaspils, Kuldīga, Olaine, Talsi, Ķekava, Dundaga, Daugavpils, Mārupe, Garkalne, Sigulda, Lielvārde, Preiļi, Ādaži, Jelgava, Tukums, In Valka region.
Covid-19 has returned to Grobiņa, Priekule, Limbaži, Kārsava and Rūjiena districts, where all the patients had previously recovered, but now new infections have been registered again.
Of the infections registered last day, 42 are between 20 and 29 years old, 35 are between 30 and 39 years old and between 40 and 49 years old, and 24 are between 50 and 59 years old. Fewer cases were registered in other age groups.
As reported, SPKC data show that 188 new cases of Covid-19 infection were detected in Latvia last day, which is a repeated record of the number of cases registered in one day. 188 cases of Covid-19 were also recorded on October 16.
5312 Covid-19 examinations were performed in Latvia last day, which is the second largest number of tests performed in one day. On October 16, 5332 tests were performed.
SPKC explains that the impressive indicator has been achieved by continuing the purposeful investigation into already known outbreaks in Daugavpils, Vecpiebalga and Riga.
The proportion of positive cases against those tested last day was 3.5%. The SPCC has previously explained that this figure is considered important in the European Union, as above 3%, the spread of the disease is considered to be rapid and uncontrolled.
In Latvia, a total of 3797 people have been confirmed with Covid-19, of whom 1341 have recovered.
Seven new patients with Covid-19 were admitted to Latvian hospitals last day, but ten of them were discharged, according to the data of the National Health Service.
As a result, there are currently 79 inpatients, 73 of whom have a moderate course of disease and six have a severe course of the disease.
A total of ten people have left the hospital since last day, so a total of 300 patients have been discharged from the hospitals, including both the dead and the recovered.
