A total of 43 researchers from the Region will participate in stays of up to nine months at international universities

MURCIA, 26 Dec. (PRESS EUROPE) –

The aid granted this year by the Ministry of Enterprise, Labour, University and Spokesperson, through the Seneca Foundation, will allow 43 researchers from the Region to carry out stays of up to nine months in prestigious research centers in Germany, Austria, the United States United States, United Kingdom, Chile, Colombia and China; in addition to receiving four researchers from Canada, China, Mexico and the United States at universities in the Region and research institutions, and holding 26 congresses and technical-scientific meetings in the Region, most of which are international.

These initiatives are part of the ‘Jiménez de la Espada’ regional research mobility programme, worth 217,000 euros and “allow the promotion of the international experience of our researchers and the international projection of the research carried out in the Region, at the same time as that researchers strengthen ties and high-level scientific exchange is encouraged,” explained the minister of business, labour, university and spokesperson, Valle Miguélez.

The objective of the programme, which includes three different public tenders, is to promote the internationalization and outreach of regional research and scientific collaboration with important international research centres. To this end, this initiative is divided into three lines, the first, which supports the mobility of researchers so that they can stay in research centers of international prestige.

Participants will work in this edition on the modeling of high-tech thermal coating processes, in Germany; research in hydrology and water resources management, in Austria; the quantification of microplastics in agricultural soils, in Chile; the precise solution of ordinary differential equations with discontinuities, in China; the use of open access statistical programs in educational research, in Colombia; comprehensive assessment of household exposure to media, quantum technologies, injury mechanics in women’s soccer, or goal setting on college teams, in the United States; and bioengineering to improve the remediation of contaminated soils and the molecular mechanisms underlying the anti-tumor response, in the UK.

The second line attracts foreign researchers. Thus, during 2023, four new researchers from universities in Canada, China, Mexico and the United States will be incorporated to collaborate with research groups dedicated to the application of advanced statistical techniques to social and economic sciences, big data, extract characterization food and the study of breast cancer, in the centers of the University of Murcia, the Polytechnic University of Cartagena and Cebas-Csic.

The last line promotes the international exchange of knowledge through congresses and scientific meetings.

6.4 MILLION FOR MOBILITY

In the 25 years of activity of the Seneca Foundation, the cumulative investment in the mobility program reaches 6.4 million euros and 1,040 contributions have been assigned.

Furthermore, the Seneca Foundation provides advice to researchers and their families on cultural, legal, employment, health and educational issues, through participation in ‘Researchers on the move’, a network of support points throughout Europe promoted by the European Commission. Likewise, the Foundation has the ‘Murcia Mobility’ Portal to attract scientific talent, where it is possible to consult the ‘Guide for foreign researchers in the Region of Murcia’.
