A total of 12,000 tons of imported buffalo meat arrives in Indonesia

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The government through the Logistics Affairs Agency (Bulog) imports buffalo meat to deal with rising meat commodity prices ahead of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr. The imported frozen buffalo meat arrived in Indonesia on Saturday (5/3/2022) via Tanjung Priok Port, North Jakarta.

The head of the National Food Agency (NFA) Arief Prasetyo Adi, who directly monitored the arrival of imported frozen buffalo, appreciated Bulog’s move as one of the SOEs assigned to import meat this year.

“As we have said before, we will encourage Food SOEs that have been assigned to accelerate the entry of national stock reserves. Alhamdulillah, today, I and the Bulog Board of Directors are directly monitoring the arrival of imported meat by Bulog and I also ask for it to be distributed immediately,” said he went through his press release on Saturday.

With the amount of frozen meat stocks currently controlled by Bulog, Arief hopes that the community’s needs can be met during Ramadan and Eid.

Meanwhile, Director of Supply Chain and Public Services Mokhamad Suyamto said Bulog ordered 20,000 tons of meat in the first stage of imports. As many as 60 percent (12,000 tons) of orders have arrived in Indonesia. The rest is targeted until the end of March 2022.

“We have made arrangements and accelerated as much as possible for the process of arrival of this imported meat stock, then with the following facilities: cold storage and the infrastructure network owned by Bulog will soon be distributed throughout Indonesia,” said Suyamto.

“Bulog also ensures that the demand for frozen meat is available in the community even though there is a surge in demand. Bulog will use all existing instruments to ensure the availability of the food,” he continued.

According to him, Perum Bulog will continue to coordinate with the National Food Agency, central and regional governments whose aim is to help make government programs successful by stabilizing other food prices during Ramadan and Eid.

Previously, the government had assigned the State Logistics Agency (Bulog) to import frozen buffalo and beef to control the increase in domestic meat prices.

The Director General of Domestic Trade at the Ministry of Trade, Oke Nurwan, said the government asked Bulog to import 100,000 tons of frozen buffalo meat and 20,000 tons of frozen buffalo meat. beef frozen this year.
