A total of 114 cases dismissed – NRK Trøndelag – Local news, TV and radio

Last week it came to light that the former village superintendent in the town of Frosta, Arne Bye, was accused of raping 88 women. In addition, eight other women are in abusive situations in the case.

For NRK, the head of the investigation, Eivind Gulseth, confirms that the police have dismissed 99 cases.

The cases were dropped before the case was referred to the State Attorney.

Last week, State Attorney Eli Nessimo confirmed that the State Attorney let him down 15 cases after which they received from the police.

This means that a total of 114 cases were rejected.

85 cases disappeared

Frosta’s case has affected many women. Police have captured more than 6,000 hours of video.

More than 150 women were identified in the video material.

Eivind Gulseth says there are various reasons why cases were set aside.

85 of the cases were dismissed due to the statute of limitations, and four were dismissed on the basis of the evidence, he said.

– Eight of the cases were dropped because of any criminal relationship and two were dropped outside of criminal proceedings.

– Many people find it difficult

Last week it emerged that the lawyers for the victims in the case were considering complaining that some women’s cases were dropped.

The coordinating lawyer, Tove Røddesnes, says on Monday that many of those who have complained find it difficult that their case has been rejected.

I find that it is difficult for many of the criminals that their case was rejected.

Røddesnes says that she feels that many of the cases have been put aside because of prescription.

The fact that the cases were dismissed does not mean that no crime occurred in those cases.

Even though a defendant is to be presumed innocent until the case is decided, the level of dismissed cases gives a clear picture of how widespread this case was before the trial. make a case

He has pleaded not guilty

Erlend Hjulstad Nilsen defends Arne Bye.

– Our client understands that the conviction is very serious and very broad, said Hjulstad Nilsen to NTB when the conviction became clear last week.

– We have reason to emphasize that there is no judgment in the case and that the accused must be considered innocent until the court finds otherwise.

The defendant has denied all wrongdoing.
