A total lunar eclipse will occur May 26, when is the right time to see it?

JAKARTA – On May 26, 2021, Indonesia will be able to see the phenomenon of a total lunar eclipse. Like what and when is the right time to observe this phenomenon?

A total lunar eclipse is a phenomenon when the moon’s orbital midwife is tilted 5 degrees bringing it parallel to the Earth’s ecliptic plane.

This phenomenon can only occur during the Full Moon or when the Earth is in the middle of the Sun and Moon. This will make the Earth block the sunlight that should be received by the Moon.

However, instead of being dark, when the peak of a total lunar eclipse occurs, Earth’s only satellite will appear red. This happens because the sun’s rays that are covered by the Earth still push through the Earth’s atmosphere.

Then refracted to the Moon making it appear red. Its red color can even be as red as blood, which has earned it the nickname “Blood Moon”.

Launching the Astronomy Info page, Saturday (15/5), eastern Indonesia will be the best location to see a total lunar eclipse because you can see poses from start to finish.

However, it should be noted that other regions such as in central and western Indonesia cannot witness this.

The total lunar eclipse will begin at 16.44 WIB / 17.44 WITA / 18.44 WIT. This is when BUlan first enters Earth’s umbra shadow, so there will be a slight ‘bite’ on the Moon’s face. Unfortunately, for western Indonesia and central Indonesia, the Moon has not yet risen at this hour.

The peak phase of the eclipse, when most of the face of the Moon is already in the Earth’s umbra shadow, will begin at 18.11 WIB / 19.11 WITA / 20.11 WITA.

Luckily, at this moment the Moon has risen in all regions of Indonesia, so the public can watch together.

Meanwhile, the peak phase of the eclipse will occur at 18.18 WIB / 19.18 WITA / 20.18 WITA. This is the moment when the Moon is red and red.

If you have a telescope, immediately observe the Moon and capture as many as you can because this moment is quite rare.

And, the peak phase will end at 18.25 WIB / 19.25 WITA / 20.25 WIT. The redness of the Moon will gradually fade, but the ‘bite’ on the Moon’s face will still be observed until the partial eclipse ends at 19.25 WIB / 20.25 WITA / 21.52 WITA.
