A tornado in the south of the Czech Republic destroyed several villages, affected dozens

The villages of Grushki, Luzice, Moravska Nova Ves and Mikulčice suffered the most from the disaster.

Rescuers report that a total of seven settlements in the South Moravian region were affected by the tornado. People are under the ruins of residential buildings, rescue operations are underway.

The Czech army was transferred to the disaster zone. In total, at least 30 thousand homes were left without electricity after the tornado.

Czech President Milos Zeman thanked the emergency services for their response to the incident. Severe tornadoes are rare in the Czech Republic, the last of which was recorded in 2018.
