A Thousand-Year-Old Mummy with Long Hair and Intact Jaw Found at Peru’s Famous Archaeological Site

A new discovery at a well-known archaeological site in Peru: a thousand-year-old mummy with long hair and a nearly intact jaw

CCTV News Client News A new discovery has been made at a well-known archaeological site in a residential area in Lima, the capital of Peru: a mummy with a history of 1,000 years.

On September 6, local time, Mireira Ganosa, head of the archaeologist team, said in an interview with Reuters that the mummy was unearthed from the Pukyana site in the Miraflores district of central Lima. Ceramic vessels, textiles and other artefacts were also excavated.

“It’s an adult mummy, legs bent, in a sitting position,” Ganosa said, with long hair and a nearly perfectly preserved jaw.

According to Ganosa, the mummy may have been made 1,000 years ago in the early days of the Ixma civilization. At the time, the Exmar civilization was in a period of social restructuring. This civilization originated in what is now the central coast of Peru, flourished from the 10th century to the 15th century, and was later absorbed and reorganized by the Inca Empire.

These cultures flourished in the centuries before the rise of the Inca Empire, mainly in the central coast of Peru and the Andes.

Historically an altar shaped like a pyramid, several mummies and ancient offerings have been unearthed at the Pukyana site, which is now one of Lima’s main attractions. Some experts believe the site is like a “Pandora’s box” with more artifacts waiting to be unearthed.

“I find it quite interesting that in the heart of the Miraflores district, in the center of the city, surrounded by modern high-rise buildings, such an important religious ceremony center in Pukyana is still preserved. Historic sites,” Ganosa said.

There are about 10 million residents in Lima, and there are about 400 historical sites distributed in multiple residential areas.
