(ANSA) – GENOA, 04 NOV – “Indifference is the worst of evils for Genoa“. Thus the deputy mayor Pietro Piciocchi this evening, speaking in the Synagogue of Genoa, at the end of the March in memory of the deportation of the Genoese Jews which gathered over a thousand people. “This march – said Piciocchi – is an important signal for Genoa: remembering the Shoah is an act of responsibility especially towards young people, who are so numerous. Walking expresses the meaning of not wanting to stand still, but of wanting to overcome indifference, the worst of the evils of our city. The opposite of justice is not injustice, but indifference”. Many authorities, young people, migrants who joined the Jewish Community in Sant’Egidio and the associations that have kept this memory alive for fourteen years. The march marched silently through the streets of the center to the Israelite temple. Among the final speeches was that of Ariel Dello Strologo, former president of the Jewish Community: “we have the responsibility to abandon the war of words to preserve humanity in relationships with other people – he said – we need words of peace”. Andrea Chiappori, head of Sant’Egidio in Genoa, made an appeal to everyone: “from this memory comes daily work shoulder to shoulder to mend the wounds of the world, to build spaces of humanity to oppose the evils of the world (ANSA).
