A third of people think that the cabinet is taking too much risk with relaxation

Now that the cabinet is announcing major relaxations, there is confidence in the government’s approach and we are not very concerned in the short term. But 61 percent fear that stricter measures will be needed again in the autumn. This is mainly due to the delta variant. 55 percent have confidence in government policy. At the same time, concerns about the corona virus are falling to 42 percent.

‘With a good feeling on holiday’

This is mainly due to the successful vaccination policy. At the beginning of June, 62 percent already had confidence in vaccination policy, now that confidence has risen further to 70 percent, the highest figure since the start of vaccinations in January.

“Vaccination is going well, so there are fewer infections, healthcare is getting some air again and I’m going on holiday with a good feeling,” one interviewee summarizes this feeling.

Stricter measures in autumn

Many participants are concerned about the longer term. Six out of ten (61 percent) expect the corona measures to be tightened up again in the autumn.

More than a third (36 percent) think this will mainly happen because of the advance of the delta variant from India, which is now causing a new wave of contamination in Great Britain.

Partying young people on holiday

Half (51 percent) are already concerned about the spread of this delta variant in the Netherlands. Now that traveling within Europe will become a lot easier this summer, there is a fear that Dutch holidaymakers will return infected with the delta variant.

Young people are especially at risk. “Those celebrating young people have not yet been vaccinated and will soon return from Spain and Portugal. I do not expect that they will be tested en masse when they return to the Netherlands.”

‘Delta variant knows no borders’

Conversely, tourists also come to the Netherlands from countries where the vaccination rate is not yet that high. They can also bring the delta variant of the coronavirus with them.

“I think it is stupid and much too early that travel is allowed again. We have absolutely no idea who is going to make all kinds of outings here without a mouth cap.”
