A third Grand Prix in the United States by 2023 or 2024?

While F1 will have two races in the United States this year, a third could be added to the calendar in 2023 or 2024. Discussions are already underway with Las Vegas.

Between F1 and Las Vegas, is the story truly over? In 1981 and 1982, the discipline had offered a Grand Prix disputed between the walls in the car parks of Caesar’s Palace. But, after the successes of Alan Jones and Michele Alboreto, the initiative came to an end due to a lack of popularity among pilots and the public. However, while Miami will join the calendar this year with a circuit installed around the Hard Rock Stadium for a second stop in the United States, F1 bosses are keeping in mind the idea of having at least three Grands Prix on the American territory. The prospect of a race contested at night on a street circuit taking part of the famous “Sin City” Strip is gaining ground and, according to information from the Sports Business Journal, discussions have already begun.

The discussions too little advanced for 2023?

In fact, Stefano Domenicali’s teams have already visited Nevada’s most famous city on several occasions and have notably met State Governor Steve Sisolak as well as the municipality of Las Vegas and other local authorities in order to discuss on the viability of such a project. This follows the visit of a delegation on the occasion of the last United States Grand Prix, organized at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin last October. However, these discussions have not yet addressed the question of the promotion of the event, which will be in the hands of the Miami Dolphins NFL franchise in the case of the Miami Grand Prix. While F1’s ambition is to add a race in the streets of Las Vegas from the 2023 season, the timid progress of negotiations could delay the project by a year while the discipline wants to make the most of a growing popularity in the United States.
