This is why a telephone listening cell was created Tuesday, December 8 at the University of Nîmes. Goal, identify students who are having great difficulty and guide them to the solutions that exist.
2,200 first year students listed
About fifteen students were recruited until the end of the year holidays. They are responsible for calling the 2,200 first year students listed. One by one, they submit them to an elaborate questionnaire to assess their concerns during confinement. “Not only is there loneliness, but there is also a lot of anxiety and stress”, notes Iseulys, a 24-year-old master 2 student. And sometimes there is great insecurity. “We had the case of a student who had not had enough to buy food for several weeks”, continues the young woman.
“Several students told me they felt left out. That’s a very strong word!” – Iseulys
“Sometimes I am speechless, admits Daouda, 25 years old. A lot of people told me that they were going to give up their studies. Isolation, Daouda himself knows what it is, he who came from Guinea two years ago, and he is happy to feel useful by participating in the listening cell at the university. “Sometimes we think we have more problems than the others. But you realize that you are lucky to have what you have and that others are even more in need than you. this gesture we can help them, that makes me happy. “
