Erabaru.net. When Woodstock Academy (Connecticut) senior Matthew Myslenski checked the progress of his Harvard University application in mid-December, he had no idea that millions of people around the world would witness the moment.
But that’s exactly what happened when Matthew and his twin sister Magda recorded their reactions to the shocking news of his acceptance.
Over 3 million people have viewed the video on Instagram and TikTok as it captures moments of pure joy that unfold in real-time.
Born with cerebral palsy, Matthew Myslenski decided at the age of seven that he wanted to go to Harvard.
Matthew’s wish was granted last month, and his reaction to the news brought strangers to tears online.
A video showing 17-year-old twins Matthew and Magdalena sitting at a computer, checking the app, has gone viral.
The siblings couldn’t hold back their emotions as confetti appeared on the screen and started screaming and hugging. As for Matthew, he went to Harvard.
“Impossible!” Magdalena shouted while hugging her sister who was still in shock and amusement, “NO WAY!” “I was completely shocked,” Matthew told NBC Connecticut. “I think it’s just one of the best moments of my life.”
According to the Harvard Daily, the acceptance percentage for the Class of 2027 is 7.56 percent for early applications.
This is the second lowest degree since the university opened its doors in 1636.
“I get so excited every time I talk about it because Matthew worked so hard on this,” Magdalena said during a talk with NBC Connecticut.
Cerebral palsy (CP) is a collection of conditions that make it difficult for a person to walk or balance themselves, as stated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The disorder stems from impaired brain development or damage to the developing brain.
“Not only did I have to challenge myself academically, but I also had to work physically to get to the point where I could do what I wanted to do,” explains Matthew.
Sara Dziedzic, one of Matthew’s teachers at Woodstock Academy in Connecticut, credits the high schooler for being tough and determined.
“I think that says a lot about his character. It says a lot about the character of his family,” Dziedzic told NBC Connecticut.
“He was taught from a young age that if you want to be successful, you have to overcome it, and you must never give up. That’s the biggest message here.”
According to his Woodstock Academy online profile, Matthew wants to study biology in college and become a doctor.
Magdalena intends to attend Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
“I don’t limit myself to anything,” says Matthew, “and I want to inspire others to not limit themselves either.” (yn)
