At noon on Tuesday, the police received the first reports from students and parents of students who announced that they had seen threats on Snapchat: “According to the screenshots we have seen, the author of the messages promised ‘a bloodbath’ at school”, an official from the Lanaken-Maasmechelen police area told Mediahuis group media.

Actions were taken and an investigation was opened in the process. If the author of the messages did not openly say which institution he was targeting, the police were reassured to know that the various buildings were almost always empty, as students are in the midst of exams.

Thursday night, a suspect was identified and arrested. He was questioned.

The activities planned for this Friday will take place, the threat having been neutralized, according to the police.
