The 44-year-old teacher was on probation after posting a $ 60,000 bond.
Leslie Gillespie was 44 years old and was an English teacher at a high school in the state of Alabama, United States, and a couple of days ago she had recovered her freedom after being accused of sexually abusing two of her students.
Last Thursday, May 27, she was arrested for two serious crimes of a sexual nature to the detriment of two teenagers aged 15 and 16. However, two days later he was granted parole after posting a $ 60,000 bond.
According to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, the abuses occurred in September 2020, when the teacher was left alone with the two students in the classroom after the end of the day.
Following Gillespie’s arrest, Lawrence County Superintendent Jon Bret Smith issued a statement that read: “The Lawrence County School District has been informed that an employee has been arrested. Our school district treats this type of situation with the highest level of care. “
“While the district cannot provide any specific details at this time, we want to emphasize that there is nothing more important to Lawrence County schools than the safety and well-being of our students,” he continued.
“The district will work diligently and quickly to resolve this situation,” he added.
Suicide
After being released from prison, the woman moved home and hours later was found dead by the police. Leslie Gillespie was found dead at her home in Hillsboro, a small town in Lawrence County around 11:30 a.m., said Scott Norwood, a county coroner.
“It appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” Norwood added. In any case, the woman’s body will be subjected to an autopsy at the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.
This case joins that of several educators who recently took their own lives amid allegations of abuse. Just like an assistant principal in North Carolina charged with inappropriate contact in 1992, and a Florida teacher arrested after a sting operation.
