“I thought for a moment that he was looking for an actress with red hair,” laughs Kim Holvoet a day after Matthias Schoenaerts’ visit. “It was a customer who suddenly said that perhaps I should order Matthias Schoenaerts first. When I went to the front of the store, I saw a man in a suit. Honestly, I didn’t recognize him at first. I greeted him and asked what he wanted. When I looked closer afterwards, I saw that it was indeed him.” Matthias ordered a smos sandwich with pickles instead of cucumber and made time to take a picture with the manager and her employee.

“He was very friendly, a very charming man. I have to admit that I was a bit out of it and felt very warm in no time. It’s a world star who suddenly appears in your business, but he acted very ordinary. Still, I treated him like a normal customer. I made his sandwich as I would for any customer.” The star actor paid the 4.20 euros owed with the card. “I don’t know what he came to Wevelgem to do either. He said anyway, see you next time. I told him that of course he is always welcome.”
