Chelsea have reportedly reached an agreement with Aston Villa for the transfer of Romelu Lukaku. The two clubs are said to have reached an agreement after a swap deal with Napoli involving Victor Osimhen fell through.
Chelsea have been looking to sell Lukaku for some time now, having never been able to get the best version of the man they paid €110m for in 2011. The Belgian has failed to earn his place in the team and has since been loaned out to Inter Milan and Roma, where he has performed slightly better.
Lukaku does not want to stay in England
According to CalcioNapoli24, Chelsea have agreed to sell the Red Devils’ top scorer to Aston Villa. However, the source specifies that the interested party is not interested in a transfer to Birmingham. And he still hopes to be able to join Naples where he would be reunited with his former coach at the Nerazzurri, Antonio Conte.
The deal was a swap deal for Osimhem, who had been in Chelsea’s sights for some time now, but the move appears to have fallen through due to Chelsea’s impatience.
The deal with Napoli could not be concluded due to Chelsea’s impatience. The Londoners wanted the transaction to be finalised before the start of the Premier League season, the first match of which will take place on 18 August.
Another reason Lukaku is refusing to join the Villans is that he would be forced to accept a huge pay cut from his current £325,000-a-week salary. Even in the Champions League, Villa are unable to meet his financial demands.
