A supporter of the Governor of Papua Luca Enembe reportedly killed after being involved in unrest in the area Sentani AirportTuesday (10/1).
“Yes, it is true that someone was killed,” Papua Police public relations chief Kombes Ignatius Benny Prabowo said when it was confirmed. CNNIndonesia.com.
Ignatius admitted that the incident started when Lukas Enembe was still at Sentani airport being taken to Jakarta.
At that time, sympathizers of Lukas Enembe tried to enter the runway of Sentani airport. They did not accept the arrest made by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Enembe.
Ignatius says Enembe supporters then tried to attack the officers guarding the airport location.
“They attacked the officers who carried out the isolation who carried out the security. So efforts were made to stop their actions because they endangered the officers,” he explained.
According to him, officers on the ground had fired warning shots at protesters but were ignored by Enembe supporters.
“There were attempted warning shots. LE sympathizers attacked the officers by throwing stones and shooting arrows at the officers,” he said.
Ignatius claimed the officers had to open fire to paralyze sympathizers. The shot hit the victim below the waist.
The victim was also taken to Yowari hospital for treatment. However, her life still could not be saved.
“The victim was shot below the waist. This is the standard for disabling shooting. However, while being treated in the hospital, he was pronounced dead,” he explained.
In addition to the death toll, Ignatius said there were three other injured victims following the riot at Sentani airport. He said the two injured victims were Enembe sympathizers.
“A resident was reinstated because he was in the vicinity of the location,” he concluded.
Lukas Enembe is known to have been arrested in the city of Jayapura, Papua on Tuesday afternoon (10/1). Enembe was taken to the Kotaraja Mobile Brigade headquarters before finally departing for Jakarta from Sentani Airport.
Lukas Enembe is being prosecuted by the KPK on suspicion of receiving billions of rupees in bribes and tips. He has not been arrested by the KPK because he is always absent when summoned by the detectives.
The KPK has just arrested Rijatono Lakka, Director of PT Tabi Bangun Papua (TBP) in a corruption case related to an infrastructure project at the Papua Provincial Government (Pemprov).
