One hundred rules them all, one preaches them all…
The past month has brought us what I believe to be a hot candidate for the most beautiful LEGO set of all time – 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell. We are used to seeing such elaborate buildings in the “MOC of the Month” section from the best builders from around the world. Designing something like an official kit is much more difficult because you have to think about the model being able to be built even by a complete beginner and you can’t afford any weak points.
Perhaps that is also why a record 9 designers worked on the set (usually sets for adults are the work of 1-2 designers), who were apparently all LOTR fans. It is said that Lego conditioned the development of other kits from the world of JRR Tolkien on the sales success of Roklinka, which I think its authors perfectly ensured.
In my opinion, the set will not only be successful with Lord of the Rings fans, but in general with all AFOLs who can appreciate the enormous level of detail and fidelity to the original, the incredibly interesting construction techniques or perhaps the minimal use of stickers (we only find 13 of them in the package). If you are interested in this kit in even more detail, we have devoted a substantial part to it the latest Podcast in a nutshell.
The most popular group in the world has its own Lego set
The already mentioned Roklinka is in every way a premium kit, a love letter from the Lego Group not only to Lord of the Rings fans, but also to AFOLs (Adult Fan Of Lego) in general. However, the latest set from the Lego Ideas series is, in my opinion, one of those sets with which the Lego company is only trying to attract new fans, this time through a mass popular group BTS and her hit song Dynamite (currently 1.6 billion views on YouTube).
So you won’t find any elaborate construction techniques in the kit, there are almost thirty stickers and the details are mainly focused on the BTS record store. On the other hand, it will make every fan of the band happy, who may rediscover his love for Lego bricks from his childhood, and this set will not be his last. I think this is the strategy that Lego Group is relying on with these “entry level” sets.
A superstar among Star Wars ships arrives
Even the world from a galaxy far, far away received news in the field of collectible kits for adults. It is, in my opinion, one of the most elegant Imperial ships ever – Executor Super Star Destroyer. While the range of Star Wars ship kits for adults has so far consisted of giant models with a price tag of over 10,000 CZK, this one is built from only 630 blocks. This can be an interesting alternative for those who are looking for a nice Lego model for display that they won’t have to build for several days or simply don’t want to spend so much on a “toy”.
Crumbs
We worked on Maty’s cubes the history of LEGO Architecture dating back to the 1960s or perhaps not exactly clear color palette of Lego pieces.
The Bionicle line is often said to have saved the entire LEGO company. There is a nice and quite long video about its creation and development from the relatively small YouTube channel slow start.

The Brother’s Brick website brought a sad memory to LEGO designer Erling Thue Dideriksen, who died on March 1, 2023. He was the one who invented the so-called headlight brick, i.e. a 1×1 cube with a slightly recessed stud on the side. This cube is one of the most revolutionary ever, because it enabled the so-called SNOT (Studs Not On Top) for the very first time, i.e. a construction technique in which the protrusions (studs) of the cubes do not point upwards, but perhaps to the sides. Perhaps because of this, it is still the only one that is commonly called by the name of its inventor, i.e. “Erling Brick”.
Ukraine has been talked about in the last year mainly in connection with the invasion by Russia, but did you know that right in the capital city of Kyiv you can find a district strongly inspired by building with LEGO bricks? About the so-called Comfort Town and the LEGO fan community in Ukraine he broke it down BrickNerd.
Phil Edwards uploaded a very nice video called “Why Lego won”, in which he focuses on the relationship between the LEGO Group and the British company Kiddicraft and the reasons why LEGO bricks became a global phenomenon despite copying Kiddicraft bricks. You can also find more about this topic in the article Controversial moments in the history of the LEGO Group.
