Al-Marsad Newspaper: A recent study revealed that not cooking rice properly can cause cancer.
The study, conducted by Queen’s University Belfast in England, said the chemical from industrial toxins and pesticides in the soil can make rice unsafe and can lead to arsenic poisoning in many cases.
The study found that rice contains a high level of arsenic and therefore, if not cooked properly, it can lead to poisoning with this chemical and cancer.
In another study, begun in the mid-1990s to identify potential risk factors for high-level arsenic exposure, a total of 9,400 participants developed cancer during follow-up, with the highest incidence of breast and lung cancer.
The study showed that the best way to remove arsenic from rice is to soak it overnight in water before cooking, and in this process, the level of toxins was reduced by 80%.
