Al-Marsad newspaper: A study issued by the Global Burden of Disease Index revealed the benefits of eating strawberries on heart health. Noting that eating a small cup of strawberries daily can improve cardiovascular health.
“It is essential that diets include sufficient amounts of fruit and take into account diversity,” said Professor Brett Burton Freeman, a professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology, in a statement.
Cholesterol lowering
The study indicates that the benefits of eating strawberries include lowering bad cholesterol, increasing blood vessel strength and flexibility, lowering blood sugar and insulin resistance, in addition to reducing inflammation.
Insulin resistance
Dr. Arpita Basu, assistant professor at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas, said that a study of 33 obese adults showed that eating two and a half cups of strawberries daily led to a significant improvement in insulin resistance.
“Our study supports the hypothesis that strawberry consumption can improve cardiometabolic risk,” Basu explained.
Basu stressed that it is important to adopt strawberries as a “medicine” to prevent type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease in adults.
Cancer protection
Other studies have found evidence that strawberries may help protect against some types of cancer, and may be beneficial for people with high blood pressure.
