A study estimates that 95% of Europeans have been infected with the virus

95% of Europeans would have caught coronavirus at least once during this pandemic. This is estimated by The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME), an independent entity dedicated to the analysis of global health linked to the University of Washington. In his latest report, he indicates that the high rate of infections that the population has registered in these three years of the pandemic, together with the extensive vaccination -in the Basque Country, 96% of the population of legal age has the complete regimen-, has generated a high immunity in citizenship.

All this has led to the fact that, despite the increase in the circulation of the virus registered during the last months of last year, the severity of this disease in Europe has been much less than in previous winters. Something that is evidenced in the low numbers of hospital admissions and current deaths.

The study calculates that they would have been saved in Europe with the extensive use of masks.

This North American institute, initially promoted by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, estimates that throughout this winter there is a contained circulation of the virus. Even so, it puts the number of deaths from covid that will be registered during this season in the entire continental European region at 90,000. The figure is striking, but it is largely due to the fact that the projection includes data from countries such as Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, as well as those from the European Union itself and its surroundings.

In turn, the work maintains that if the population made extensive use of the mask, that is, that 80% of the population uses it indoors, 40,000 lives would be saved in this world region during the current winter season.
