The total number of deaths from COVID-19 in the United States has exceeded 950,000, the highest number globally by a wide margin. On average, 2,000 United States residents continue to die from the coronavirus each day.
Meanwhile, a recent study concludes that the third dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 from Pfizer or Moderna drastically increases protection against mild cases of the omicron variant of the coronavirus. The study, published by The New England Journal of Medicine, found that protection against symptoms of the disease was reduced to only 8% in people who received two doses of the Pfizer vaccine. Instead, a third dose rapidly and substantially increased protection to prevent both mild and severe cases of omicron. Similar results were seen in the Moderna vaccine.
