Timothy prepares for an extraordinary adventure. Student in third year of medicine at Lille (North), the young man from Hem aims to take advantage of a gap year to connect France to South Africa, by bike ! A personal, human and united challenge, since he does this for the association Petits Princes.
surpass oneself
It is a smiling Timothée, very motivated by his project, who presents the challenge he wishes to take up, over a coffee in Lille. “I’m a big fan of travel and anything related to surpassing oneself”, he confides to us.
He has already taken up many challenges, faced ambitious routes, hiking or canoeing… There, for his gap year which he wants to take from September 2022, he dreams of an even greater challenge: link France to South Africa by bike. Or a journey of 20,000 km in one year!
A meaningful human adventure
Basically, Timothée did not see himself taking a break from his studies, which are already long. But after hearing several testimonies from young people who took a year to live a particular experience, he let himself be tempted. “I’ve always dreamed of having an adventure like this. These testimonials confirmed my idea of doing so. » It came out that « this time is not wasted, that it is a year to do something else. »
After a click in June 2021, he thinks of a journey, a challenge for which he surpasses himselfbut above all wants make sense of it. “I inquired about the associations, to see which one could be related to my project. He goes through the international structures, then finally chooses a French one: the Little Princes.
Fulfill children’s dreams
The Little Princes Association makes sick children’s dreams come true. The organization’s values mean a lot to Timothée, who is thinking in particular of specializing in paediatrics. “We’ll see, there are still internships to do, but it’s an idea,” he says.
“For me, this journey is a dream. What this association does is directly related to this project. And finally, making your dreams come true is vital! The association, which follows Timothée in his idea, helps him to build his itinerary. ” We work together. The idea is to put the Little Prince forward, ”insists the young man.
The Trans’Africa
As for the route, he has already done a lot of research to know where to go. “I’m not trying something that has never been done. I will follow the Trans’Afrique (Cairo – Cape Town). It’s secure, and adapted to the weather, when I hit the road,” slips the student, who had the idea of heading to Asia first.
For the rest, he will let himself go. “There are so many unforeseen events on a trip like this that I don’t set myself the goal of getting from point A to point B every day.” He will meet the locals, ask them to pitch his tent in their garden… “It’s for the meetings, too, that I go there, and that’s why I want to go alone”.
He will probably stop in primary schools, to talk with young people. In the weeks to come, everything will be defined, little by little.
Join the “Dream Tim”
You can follow his journey through regular publications on social networks. “A friend is going to make the website, my cousin is going to take care of editing the videos…” He will therefore be helped to update his content, and will be able to take full advantage of the experience.
“At the moment, I am preparing for the exams. It will happen quickly and you have to validate this year, to leave! smiles the student. Notice to businesses: Timothée is still looking for sponsors, for this extraordinary human adventure. During the summer, he will equip himself to leave. He is still waiting for returns for partnerships. Let’s hope that the “Dream Tim” grows!
