Games against Winterthur have always been very close recently and even less recently and the HCT had to suffer bitter defeats, such as in the cup in October. Nevertheless, a win in Winterthur was also an important sign near the top of the table when HCT visited Deutweg for the last time on 13 October.
Today, after the last few weeks, the HCT went into the game definitely as the favorites and, with the exception of Kevin Lindemann, who was injured for a long time, could e count on a complete squad. Nevertheless, the Thurgau side made it easy in the first few minutes of the game to find their way into the game safely. But things already went wrong after a good four minutes when, after a lack of focus in the Thurgau defence, Nico Lehmann suddenly scored with Buebetrickli and made it 1-0 for the home team. Nico Lehmann was then one of the best Winterthurians and he showed what he had learned over the last few years in Thurgau.
HCT’s response did not take long to arrive. Anders Olsson’s side took control of the game, did more and more on the offensive and in the end it was a good individual performance from Ian Derungs that led to the equaliser. He made it 1-1 with one of his stunning shots. Although Thurgau had a bit more of the game after that, it remained a draw until the break. Also because neither Döpfner nor Ljunggren managed to capitalize on some first class chances.
In the central region the dominance of the Leuen increased again. There was almost only one team playing and at times you could almost feel sorry for the Winterthur team, the Thurgauers were so upset about them. The third started perfectly from Thurgau’s point of view when Dominik Binias played a special pass to Yves Stoffel and he scored to make it 2-1. After that, the Thurgau team missed several big chances, with Döpfner and Marchand in particular able to score in front of Christoph von Burg. The third confident goal came in the last minute of the second period. David Lindquist launched the lightning Andreas Döpfner, who got away from all the Winterthur defenders and played confidently around von Burg.
In the final section, the Thurgauers loosened the reins a bit and the penalties encouraged the Eulachstädters to step up. Ljunggren was sitting on the bench when Neumann scored the goal in the 46th minute. Here too, the answer came immediately. Ian Derungs took advantage of a penalty against Winterthur with his second goal of the evening to get his fourth goal. That was the end of the battle and the people of Thurgau did not let anything go wrong during the final offensive at Winti.
All in all, the Thurgauer Leuen took all three points to Thurgau and thus earned their 7th away win in a row. The next destination on Saturday is Chur, where Leuen last lost away at the beginning of October… In between, the home game against Olten takes place on Tuesday. The Solothurn team recently managed to win three games in a row under the new coach Christian Wohlwend so we expect an explosive and entertaining game in the Gütti.
