An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.5 on the Richter scale was registered at 2:11 a.m. local time off the coast of the Italian island of Sicily, according to a reference on the official page of the European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC).
The epicenter of the earthquake was 94 km northeast of Palermo, where about 648 thousand people live, and 78 km northwest of the resort of Capo d’Orlando, at a depth of 17 km.
There were no reports of casualties or damage.
After the first earthquake, four weaker ones followed, which had a magnitude of about 2 on the Richter scale.
