translation exclusive : A 70-year-old American man discovered he was switched postpartum after his daughter began researching her family tree.
Andy Perkins, who grew up in Buffalo, New York, said that although his childhood was happy, he felt isolated and his parents — Jim and Shirley — and his siblings were all darker-skinned as well as taller and more reserved, which always bothered him.
The father of six, who has since moved to Grand Prairie, Texas, didn’t discover he had been switched at birth until he was 70, reports the New York Post.
His daughter, Kandi Perkins Summers, began researching her family tree in 2015 and, as part of her investigation, took DNA tests of her parents using Ancestry.com. She discovered that her father was not biologically related to any of his immediate relatives.
The father-daughter duo quickly discounted that he had been adopted and also dismissed the idea that his mother was having an affair.
change after Birth
In 2020 they found an archived newspaper clipping announcing the birth of Andy and a baby named Phillip who had been born the day before.
The daughter told her father that he was likely changed at birth, and he at first thought she was joking. But sadly, Andy’s biological parents passed away before he could communicate with them.
Andy told DailyMail.com that when he first saw a photo of his biological mother, the resemblance “made him cry.”
He has since been able to connect with his biological siblings in July 2020 who he says welcomed him with ‘open arms’.
