An official comment on the Ukrainian Minister of Defense: “He seems confident of himself, but the Ukrainians know full well that they will not get fighters before a year.”
In an unconventional diplomatic behavior, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov, on Tuesday, waved a handkerchief with fighters, in reference to his country’s insistence on obtaining fighters from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
Ukraine’s defense minister bizarrely waved to the cameras during NATO meetings Tuesday in Brussels to hasten the supply of a variety of weapons to Kiev in the face of an all-out Russian offensive in the spring.
And about the smile of the Ukrainian minister during the strange waving, one of the participants in the meeting commented: “He seems confident of himself, but the Ukrainians know full well that they will not get fighters before a year,” quoting Reuters.
For his part, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg confirmed that “fighters are not the most pressing issue, but the discussion is ongoing” about it.
“We will provide the Ukrainians with the means to survive and advance during the spring counteroffensive,” said US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin. While he talked about artillery, anti-aircraft defense systems and tanks, the US official did not mention female fighters in the upcoming arms shipments.
It is noteworthy that supplying Kiev with tanks occupies the main side of the alliance’s discussions during its meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday.
“We will devote more time to tanks,” Ukrainian Defense Minister Reznikov wrote on Facebook on Tuesday evening.
