Angie and Chris Long run a large Kansas City metro area investment firm. They decided to acquire a women’s soccer team after a trip to France, where they experienced the 2019 Women’s World Cup. In 2020, they bought the Utah Royals, and moved them to Kansas City. The team made the opposite trip in 2017, after FC Kansas City, the team’s name at the time, ceased operations.

The current team, still in search of a name, is currently ranked 10th in the NWSL, and will close its season on October 30 by hosting OL Reign.
