Sedentary lifestyle increases the risk of death from Covid-19 according to a British study published this Wednesday, April 14. To fight against sedentary lifestyle and reconnect with the practice of sport, 138 labeled sports-health houses were created in January 2020. This year, 150 new ones obtained the recognition of the Ministry in charge of Sports and the Ministry of Solidarity and Health .
These Sports-Health Houses (MSS) for everyone, to people who have never practiced sport or wanting to return to the practice of sport, such as those suffering from chronic diseases, or long-term illness.
Two sports and health centers in Indre-et-Loire
These sports-health houses are intended for people who have a medical prescription to play sports in the room, with a doctor’s prescription. In Indre-et-Loire, there are two: one in Cinq-Mars-la-Pile, and one in Château-la-Vallière. The latter is managed by a couple of sports educators.
In Château-la-Vallière, the Fit Santé association is pushing the walls to welcome the sports-health center which will be called “Second souffle”. Caroline Grégoire, sports educator and coordinator of the association has already been working within the association since 2017, but the news of this labeling is a pleasure, “It means that we recognize, that we are able to welcome people who will have medical prescriptions”.
Twelve sports sessions adapted according to profiles
Once the doctor’s prescription and the first contacts established with the sports-health center, we carry out a physical and personal assessment of our motivations. Then, twelve sports sessions are prescribed over a quarter. Sessions in groups of six. A package also containing the follow-up by a physiotherapist and a doctor. For all that, you have to pay the modest sum of 25 euros. The goal is not to economically slow down those wishing to play sports ahead of the cup. Laurent Grégoire is president of Fit’Santé: “we remain in the continuity of what we undertook from the beginning: helping people, fighting against sedentary lifestyle” says the athlete. Group lessons are adapted according to the profiles, according to the levels, to make each progress progressively.
Fight against a sedentary lifestyle by moving
There are not yet registered under the new label Maison sport-santé for lack of communication but members of the association are present for a pilates court this Wednesday. This is the case of Christian, 65, “It is especially important for me to find flexibility, for my back”. He must have received a medical prescription from his doctor to follow these courses, “it is because I have a history of heart and hypertension and a herniated disc”. Cécile is also there for her back, she has been coming here for several months, “I noticed during the confinement that if I didn’t play sports, I had back pain. So I asked for a medical prescription and it’s been much better since I came here” smiled this lady doing pilates exercises.
The WHO recalls that inactivity kills 10 times more than road accidents. During periods of confinement, a third of French people remained seated for more than 7 hours a day according to the Ministry of Health.
