“Dance is for everybody” – with this vision Alvin Ailey, who died in 1989, and his dancers changed the perception of American dance 60 years ago. Today the world-renowned «Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater»The dance world with choreographies full of beauty and elegance. With a new program including the Ailey masterpiece “Revelations”, the world-famous ensemble will be performing at Theater 11 in Zurich from September 25 to 30, 2018.
Since the “Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater” has long been an icon of the New York cultural scene and also stands for the openness and diversity of the city, the dance group is also relevant to tourism: on the one hand, because many tourists visit the shows in New York, but also because she draws attention to the cultural offerings of New York on her world tours
For this reason, the tourism marketing organization NYC & Co. (represented by Evelyn Dathe from Aviareps in Munich, picture below) invited selected media and industry partners to the premiere in Theater 11 – which, by the way, was frenetically celebrated by the audience. In the run-up to the dance performance, there were drinks and snacks to learn about New York’s cultural offerings. For example, on September 24th the «Off Broadway Week», Which runs until October 7th and offers a« 2-for-1 »ticket offer for 38 Broadway shows. Of course there are new shows every year on Broadway (this year, for example, “King Kong” or “The Lifespan of a Fact” with Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe) and the already wide range of (art) museums is constantly being expanded. In the latter area it is worth mentioning «Color Factory”, A pop-up museum, or the new“ Museum of Illusions ”. In the coming year, which NYC & Co. is styling as a “Monumental Year”, there will also be the long-awaited openings of the “Lionsgate“At Times Square and the arts center”The Shed“Celebrate in the Hudson Yards. And anyone who has been inspired by the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in Zurich and wants to see other shows on site in New York can do so, for example, over the coming Christmas holidays (November 28th to December 30th) in New York City Center do. A special performance will take place on December 11th, celebrating the opening of the City Center in 1943. Another of countless good reasons to – again? – To visit New York.
PS: There is also an “Alvin Ailey Way” in New York City – actually it is West 61st Street (between Amsterdam and Columbus Avenue), with which the important Afro-American artist was commemorated.
