With Raimonds Paul’s birthday approaching, the Latvian radio “Radioteātris” prepared a special premiere – a musical-literary concert “Bet saules laikrods iet…” with music by Raimonds Pauls and poetry by Jānis Peters.
The first broadcast on the Latvian Radio 1 channel was already on Sunday, January 8, but viewers of Latvian Television channel 1 will be able to see it on the Master’s birthday, January 12, at 21.10.
According to the creative team, the concert performance “But the sun clock goes on…” is a tribute to human life, where the newly created music and poetry tell about the eternal values in our life, which come from the past and are future-oriented. “The program includes 11 new and hitherto unreleased Master’s songs with unreleased poems by Jānis Peters. It is like a match between the two masters, during which they tell a story about a person’s attitude towards life and its course. The life of a person against eternity is only a small part,” says Māra Eglīte, manager of “Radioteatra”, about the message of the concert performance.
Thinking about who will be able to sing this story better, the creative team turned to the singing duo Intara Busulis and Paula Saija. “Maestro is an example of creativity, which is always in action and does not stop. It seems that we all do a lot, but when we meet Maestro and follow his activities, it always seems that we are not doing enough. Therefore, we indulged in creativity by Raimonds Paul and Jānis Peters. I had the pleasure of getting to know the young artist Paula Saija through this project, and of course it is the greatest pleasure and honor to play with the Maestro again after a long break”, Intars Busulis points out.
In this concert, the songs are performed by singers Intars Busulis and Paula Saija, with Rihards Leper as narrator. Raimonds Pauls himself plays piano, while the backing line-up includes Aivars Hermanis (guitar), Jānis Rubiks (bass) and Māris Briežkalns (percussion instruments).
