The Office of the President repudiated the “slander and insults” of the Minister of Transport of Spain, Óscar Puente, against Javier Milei and pointed out in harsh terms against the government of Pedro Sánchez for the recent accusations of corruption against the First Lady, Begoña Gómez.
The dispute began as a result of Minister Puente’s statements in a round table on social networks and the public image of politicians. There the Spanish official recommended that young people be themselves and jokingly added that “there are very bad people who, by being themselves, have reached the top.”
In that sense, Óscar Puente gave as examples the cases of the Argentine president and the former North American president Donald Trump. “I don’t know if they will have advisors. To Milei, of course, if she has advisors, I think she doesn’t listen much,” he added.
However, later the official went further and suggested that Milei had consumed drugs. “I saw Milei on TV, and according to her, she was listening to him, do you remember? The thing about… When he came out, I don’t know in what state and prior to ingesting or after ingesting what substances, but he came out to say what he said, a few days before… I said: ‘It’s impossible for him to win the elections.’ ‘” Puente said, without being too specific.
The official response from the Casa Rosada was forceful and after repudiating the official’s slander, it took aim directly at the President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez.
“Pedro Sánchez’s government has more important problems to deal with, such as the corruption accusations leveled against his wife, an issue that even led him to consider his resignation. For the good of the Kingdom of Spain, we hope that justice will act quickly to clarify such a corruption scandal that directly affects the stability of your Nation and, consequently, relations with our country,” the official statement said.
Pedro Sánchez’s wife is being investigated on charges of “influence peddling and business corruption.” The complaint was made by the Clean Hands collective, which pointed out that the First Lady held meetings with several private companies, including Globalia and Air Europa, which later ended up receiving funds and public contracts from the current Government.
However, the Argentine government’s response also covered the political level, with harsh criticism of Sánchez’s actions. “Pedro Sánchez has endangered the unity of the Kingdom, agreeing with separatists and leading to the dissolution of Spain; He has put Spanish women at risk by allowing the illegal immigration of those who threaten their physical integrity; and he has endangered the middle class with his socialist policies that only bring poverty and death,” the statement continued.
“We Argentines chose to change the model that brought us misery and decadence. The same model that the Spanish Socialist Workers Party applies in its country. We hope that the Spanish people will soon choose to live in freedom again,” he concluded.
So far, there has been no official response from President Pedro Sánchez or other Spanish government officials.
