In South Korea, a man died after being infected with a brain-eating amoeba. This is reported TAX with reference to the Department of Disease Control and Prevention of the Republic of Korea.
This is the first case of primary amoebic meningoencephalitis in the country, caused by Fowler’s neglect and affecting the human brain. The deceased patient recently returned from Thailand, where he rested for four months.
The disease was first reported in the United States in 1937. In 2018, there were 381 cases of infection worldwide. This amoeba lives in warm and cool waters. The parasite enters the human body through the nasal cavity, from there it gets to the brain and infects its tissues.
As a preventive measure, doctors recommend refraining from swimming in fresh water in the regions where the amoeba lives and drinking clean water.
