KOMPAS.com – Storm Sun or Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) which occurred on January 29, 2022, caused disturbances radio signal from Russia which lasted quite a while.
In addition, several areas were also reported to have experienced power outages after phenomenon nature is happening.
Reported from Express, Friday (4/2/2022) Sun storm sends a strong wind that causes a geomagnetic storm to be thrown into the sky Earth’s atmosphere on February 3, 2022.
The storm is said to be carrying billions of tons of fast-moving solar particles and the magnetic field that binds them together.

When a CME explosion hits Earth’s atmosphere, experts say, it can cause several things, including a radio signal outage in Russia.

Skov also shared an audio recording of a Russian radio, where winds from a solar storm were heard interrupting broadcasts at the time. According to him, this phenomenon also interferes with the signal from amateur radio, which can last a long time.
On the other hand, Space Weather Center (SWPC) The United States has ranked solar storms on a scale of ‘small G1’ from least intense, to ‘extreme G5’.
However, weaker solar storms are expected to disrupt radio communications due to the release of high-energy radiation they carry.
This radiation, explained SWPC, covers the entire electromagnetic spectrum. If a very powerful CME collides with Earth’s magnetosphere, all of this radiation can damage communication and navigation satellites.
Meanwhile, solar elements such as ultraviolet and X-rays will cause changes in the ionosphere, namely the upper part of the Earth’s atmosphere, so that it can cause chaos in radio communications like in Russia.

The party of the space weather forecaster Met Office in the UK suspect that the geomagnetic storm level from the solar storm on January 29 was relatively small. They added that when a solar storm is stronger it has the potential to cause more disturbance on Earth.
“All that extra radiation can damage the satellites we use for communications and navigation, solar storms can disrupt our power grid,” the SWPC said.
These conditions can also result in power outages that can last days after the strongest solar storm occurs.
“The solar wind will probably remain high today (Friday), and may get stronger for a while,” the Met Office wrote on its official website.
