The new cabinet has two functions – symbolic and elective, and the appointment of Stefan Yanev as caretaker prime minister is not a surprise move, according to sociologist Andrei Raichev.
“There is no surprise here – the president is ruling,” he said.
The composition of the new cabinet is colorful. And a large part of it is from the layers of the protesters from last summer – such as the caretaker Minister of Culture – Velislav Minekov.
“He represents in the government those who were against Borissov in August – this is a landmark action, well presented, which Minekov symbolizes. Minekov is one of the main symbols of this protest. With some of the ministerial posts, the president will try to achieve his goals, Raichev added. Boyko Rashkov’s standing at the head of the Ministry of Interior is a clear message that there will be a battle against vote buying.
The presence of Stoycho Katsarov is also significant. For the past year and a half, he has been one of the biggest critics of the Kovid crisis management.
According to Raichev, the goal of the new cabinet is one – to organize early elections. But he admits that the revision of Borissov’s cabinet will continue.
“First, he will try to organize elections without here, there is not. And second, they will try maybe some scandals, which are in favor of Radev’s thesis that these are mutters in power,” Raichev stressed.
According to Raichev, it is possible that the results of the next elections will be different, but he is convinced that it is not necessary to run a caretaker cabinet again.
