The legendary first-person shooter Doom is not only a concept in the video game world, but it is also especially popular among computer magicians. For many years, they have been enjoying running a hell of a shooter on all possible and impossible devices that have a display. In addition to traditional items such as calculators, smart TVs and car infotainments, the most skilled have managed to run Doom on a pregnancy test, for example. or on the TouchBar on a MacBook Pro.
One of the last attempts to launch Doom on a smart device was an IKEA Trådfri GU10 345 RGB LED, which was taken care of by the group Next-Hack. Of course, the light bulb from the Swedish giant does not have a display, so the hackers used an external display, to which they connected the motherboard MGM210L, which with its 108 kB drives the clever part of the light bulb.
It’s quite surprising that such a common thing as a light bulb can do Doom. Hackers have described the whole process of achieving this on their website, and it is certainly not a simple matter. They also published a video of their actions, however, it was most likely downloaded at IKEA’s request, as well as a description from the group’s official website.
