A smart chip implanted in the brain to treat depression and improve mood

American scientists have succeeded in creating an unconventional and unusual treatment for depression, which is a smart electronic chip implanted in the brain that improves mood and eliminates depression.

According to information published by the newspaper “Daily Mail” Daily Mail The British, and Al-Arabiya.net viewed it. The smart chip that improves mood and treats depression is called a “brain implant”, and it is a technology that many companies are racing to use in treating some diseases that affect or are related to the brain.

Place of chip implantation

The microchip is placed under the human skin and is linked to the brain. It is also linked to a smartphone to provide information and follow up on health status. However, the innovative company confirms that this chip is still under experiment.

And the company (Inner Cosmos), which specializes in developing implantable technology in the body and the owner of this innovation, revealed that human trials on this new treatment for depression will begin within six months.

The “digital pill” produced by Inner Cosmos has two parts: an electrode placed under the skin of the scalp and a “prescription pod” that snaps onto users’ hair to operate the device.

The chip sends small electrical impulses to the depressed brain region, the left dorsolateral frontal cortex, once a day for 15 minutes. The external device does not need to be on the head when treatment is not taking place.

This chip has already been implanted in the head of the first patient, which is the pre-trial stage, as the patient, who is from St. Louis, Missouri, is scheduled to test this innovation for one year, and the company has another human trial scheduled to start next month.

“Our mission is to create a world that restores the cognitive power of humanity by rebalancing the human mind,” said Miron Gribetz, Founder and Director of Inner Cosmos. He added: “The world is in a state of severe turmoil which leads to a disturbance of perception, with millions feeling the effects, which leads to high levels of depression.”

“We believe our approach can ease the lives of those suffering from depression, and eventually expand to other cognitive disorders,” he added.

And the company (Inner Cosmos) says that the aim of this innovative chip is to move away from prescription drugs and move towards “more effective treatment,” according to what was reported by the “Daily Mail”.

It is noteworthy that there are 140 million Americans every year who use drugs for anxiety or depression, and this is more than users who have “iPhones”, according to Gribetz.

The “digital pill” or “brain implant” is powered by a smartphone app, which also displays graphs of mood and depression that can be shared with a doctor.
