New York, Jan 19. A small plane with two occupants on board crashed this Thursday near Westchester County, in the state of New York, due to a mechanical problem, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported.
The plane, a single-engine Beechcraft A36, had taken off from New York’s JFK Airport bound for Idaho at 5 p.m. local time, and half an hour later the pilot contacted the White Plains airport runway, north of the state, to warn that he had engine problems.
Immediately afterwards, its trace was lost, and it is estimated that it crashed around 6:15 a.m. -when it was already dark-, according to FAA sources cited by various local media.
The device has six seats, but only the pilot and another passenger were flying, who are currently untraceable, although an intense search operation is underway, according to the New York Post. EFE
