The Volkswagen Bulli, a legend among commercial vehicles, is celebrating its 70th birthday this year. And the celebrations will also take place in Prague.

Volkswagen commemorated the historic milestone of the Volkswagen Transporter as early as the beginning of March this year, when it celebrated exactly 70 years since the production of the first Type 2 car – now known as the Bully or Transporter T1.

The Volkswagen Type 2, the carmaker’s second model after the iconic Beetle, first saw the light of day in 1949, when a hand-built prototype was introduced. However, its serial production did not officially begin until March 8, 1950 at the factory in Wolfsburg.
However, recalling Transporter’s long and successful career would be a waste of words. In March, we offered how on Auto.cz the complete history of the first generation Volkswagen Transporter, so brief an overview of information about his successors. Instead of threshing empty straw, let’s talk about something more about the planned sleepy ride.

–
It is scheduled for Saturday, September 26, and will start at 10:00 from the Holešovice Exhibition Center. However, the first cars should start appearing around 9:00, which will offer the morning birds the opportunity to see the machines in relative calm and especially up close. There will definitely be something to look at.
120 Transporters of all generations, ie from the iconic T1 generation to the current T6.1, will take part in the sleepy ride. In addition to the classic buses, there will also be residential and utility versions on display, including several special pieces from the fleet of the Prison Service and the Police of the Czech Republic. The world-famous climber Adam Ondra will also take part in the event with his T6 California car.

Motorcycles will lead a sleepy ride for easier organization, but then Transporters should follow, sorted from the oldest to the youngest. Among the oldest cars, you will also see three buses from the gallery, ie the luxurious T1 Samba after eight years of complete renovation, the almost perfectly preserved T2 in the residential version of Westfalia and the practical T3 Wanagon with automatic and air-conditioned.
In addition to the aforementioned police specials, newer cars will also feature models from Volkswagen’s current range of T6.1 utility vehicles, including a red-silver-painted Multivan (price from CZK 1,050.00) or a green-painted California Beach (price from CZK 1,206,378 ). However, the Commercial Vehicles Division has significantly more in stock, so let us be surprised by what they will end up with.

After the ceremonial start, the convoy of Transporters will cross the Hlávek Bridge on the main road, after which it will reach Wenceslas Square. Here he will make a small wheel and return to the main road, from which he will descend towards Pankrác and take Jeremenkova Street to the Prague embankments.
The column will cross the Vltava over the Mánes Bridge, from which it will set off along Chotkova Street to Letná. The streets of Milady Horáková and Veletržní will then start turning towards their destination, which is again the Holešovice Exhibition Center. The total length of the route is about 16.2 kilometers and it will take at least half an hour to cover the first cars – but probably longer.
