The victim’s life is not in danger.
A lady in her sixties was taken to hospital following a fire that occurred Friday morning in her apartment in Saint-Gilles, said Brussels firefighters spokesperson Walter Derieuw.
Around 10:30 a.m., a fire broke out on the first floor of a building located on avenue Paul Dejaer, in the Brussels municipality of Saint-Gilles. “When firefighters arrived, the fire was raging in the bedroom and a plume of black smoke was escaping from the home. The occupant had already evacuated the premises on her own and went to a nearby business.”said Walter Derieuw.
The sixty-year-old, suffering from burns and smoke intoxication, was treated by the emergency services before being transferred to hospital. After evacuating the scene, the other occupants of the four-story building were able to return to their homes. In total, two Smurs, two ambulances, two pumpers, a command car, two ladder trucks, a decontamination vehicle as well as the local police were mobilized. The apartment is uninhabitable. The origin of the fire remains to be determined.
