Guest of the morning TV7 this Wednesday morning, the director of the Bordeaux University Hospital, Yann Bubien, took stock of the situation of the health crisis in the region.
“The situation is not alarming in Bordeaux, but clearly tense for several weeks, explains Yann Bubien. We are on a fairly high level of Covid hospitalizations, with regular admissions. There is no peak in activity but we are has people hospitalized every day for Covid at the CHU. We must therefore be careful of any sudden increase in activity, which could put us in difficulty, but this is not the case today, we are able to welcome new patients, and not just Covid for that matter! “
16,000 people already vaccinated by the CHU
The director of Bordeaux University Hospital insisted on the importance of continuing to respect barrier gestures. “Since January, the incidence rate has been advancing slowly but steadily. Even if the situation varies from one area to another, we must remain cautious.” Especially since the British variant affects more and more people in France. “Even if it is more contagious, the vaccine also works with it”, reassures the doctor.
Yann Bubien also welcomed the success of four vaccination centers set up by the Bordeaux University Hospital. “We vaccinated more than 16,000 people at the Bordeaux University Hospital alone, it works extremely well, we feel that there is a desire to be vaccinated,” he says.

On the occasion of the World Day Against Cancer, this Thursday, two conferences on the innovations of the Bordeaux University Hospital in this area will be broadcast live on the social networks of TV7 and Sud Ouest at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
“The CHU is at the forefront in the fight against cancer. 32% of people who come to Bordeaux University Hospital have a link with cancer, that’s a lot of people. There are 15,000 people followed from adults to children, of all types, with extremely successful teams. “
Innovative treatments
These conferences will be an opportunity to discuss several innovative treatments, particularly in the fight against pancreatic cancer, immunotherapy and CAR-T cells (which treat certain cancers of the blood by genetically modifying the patient’s cells).
Has Covid-19 overshadowed cancer treatment? “At the start of the pandemic last year, we deprogrammed a lot, and there were delays in diagnosis and treatment, answers Yann Bubien. Today, we have improved, we welcome everyone with dedicated and secure channels. “
