With the new Corona virus spreading around the world, British scientists recommended adding “vitamin D” to common foods such as bread and milk, to help fight the epidemic.

Studies indicate that a low level of “vitamin D” in the human body may lead to a higher risk of infection with the emerging corona virus, or increased suffering with severe infections, according to Sky News.

And researchers in Spain, one of the countries in Europe most affected by the Corona epidemic, found that 82 percent of virus patients who were admitted to hospitals had low levels of “vitamin D”.

Our bodies produce “vitamin D” naturally with exposure to sunlight, but its deficiency often leads to many problems, the most important of which are rickets, osteomalacia and a lack of calcium in the blood.

The British medical physics researcher Gareth Davis called on the government to fortify common foods, such as bread, milk and juices, with “vitamin D” to face the current Corona crisis, as is the case in countries such as Finland, Sweden, Australia and Canada, but his call did not find a response in his country.

Davis said in remarks carried by the British newspaper “The Guardian”: “In my opinion, it is clear that (vitamin D) not only protects against the severity of the disease, but can also prevent infection.”

He continued: “But it is clear that the current policy is not listening. At least half of Britain’s population suffers (vitamin D) deficiency,” referring to the Public Health Authority in England and the Ministry of Health and Welfare rejecting calls to support foods with vitamin for years.

But the British government always calls for taking nutritional supplements containing “vitamin D” in the winter months, or relying on foods supported by it such as corn flakes.

A study conducted last year revealed that supplementing with flour with “vitamin D” would reduce the incidence of vitamin deficiency in Britain by 25 percent over a period of 90 years.
