The Advertising Code Committee, the STER and NOS have received several complaints about a radio advertisement for the magazine Healthy Verstand. That magazine writes about unproven theories about the coronavirus. The commercial could be heard on public radio this week, including NPO Radio 1.
Radio 1 received multiple complaints about the commercial. “We have no influence whatsoever on the STER commercials”, newsreader Kirsten Klomp responded on the radio.
The STER says in a response to Radio 1: “In this case we saw no reason to refuse the commercial, as long as it does not go against the laws or regulations. We think freedom of expression is very important and in this case it has been assessed that advertising falls under this. Only when the Advertising Code Committee assesses complaints that it is not possible, then we will withdraw the advertisements. “
It is not yet clear whether the Advertising Code Committee will actually start an investigation into the Common Sense advertisements.
Why is there an advertisement for the magazine Healthy Mind # r1jn? Different listeners wanted that #JanPublic know, and so we asked the STAR – who makes the commercial breaks. pic.twitter.com/jW1E0nbLoA
