Postal books: a shower of closures for the ‘sleeping’ ones is coming; what to do in order not to lose money
Closing for dormant postal books is comingNews coming from Poste Italiane. The public body is informing some customers that it will proceed with
the extinction of their postal book by 21 June 2022.
The measure acts on deposits they present sums equal to or greater than 100 euros, but which have not been incremented or used for 10 years. In fact, starting from March, the Company is proceeding with the deactivation of the so-called postal books “Sleepers”by sending a specific communication to all users involved: if the user does not respond to the communication after 180 days, it will proceed automatically to the extinction of the booklet.
In fact, the law provides, as confirmed by Republicthat the postal books registered as dormant are moving to a Consap Funda company wholly owned by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, with the consequent termination of the relationship.
Although the company has informed the interested parties with a specific communication, however, there may still be many entitled persons which for various reasons were not reached by the information. Citizens should therefore be aware of this situation and check their own documents and those of elderly relatives, to avoid losing the amounts owed. This circumstance is also valid for heirs who want to verify the existence of dormant booklets in the name of the deceased relative. What to do then to not lose money?
To carry out the assessment it will be possible access the Poste Italiane portal and enter the dedicated section where there is a list of all dormant passbooks or contact the relevant post office.
