One person was killed and six injured after a shooting north of Paris, in a situation likely related to drug trafficking, local French authorities reported on Saturday.
The attack, perpetrated in a parking lot near a cultural center in Sevran, located between the center of Paris and the city’s main airport, Charles de Gaulle, took place around 11:45 p.m. (2145 GMT) on Friday, according to the prosecutor’s office.
Upon arriving at the scene, the police found four injured people lying on the ground. One died shortly after and the other three were taken to hospitals in serious condition, a police source said.
Three other people wounded by gunshots were also later taken to hospital, the source added.
According to what was reported, two men had arrived at the parking lot in a car. One of them got out and opened fire, then fled the scene.
The mayor of Sevran, Stéphane Blanchet, told AFP that “this was clearly a settling of scores related to drug trafficking. “We must put order and eradicate traffic.”
Police in France announced that they have opened an investigation into intentional homicide by an organized gang. As of Saturday morning, no arrests had been made.
