Three operators died last night in an accident as a result, possibly, of the inhalation of gases when they were carrying out maintenance tasks on a ship that had to be diverted to the port of Cartagena. A fourth worker has been seriously injured and has been transferred to the general hospital in Alicante.
The ship, called the Lady Lily, is flying the Liberian flag, and was about 50 miles from Cabo de Palos when the accident occurred. Apparently, according to the first hypotheses, it happened when the operators working in one of the tanks of the ship inhaled gases.
The deceased are the captain, a countermaster and a sailor. A fourth person was evacuated to the Alicante hospital for Maritime Rescue in serious condition. The Judicial Police of the Civil Guard of Cartagena investigates what happened.
