Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki confirmed that in 2023 we will face a two-step increase in the minimum wage: the first in January to PLN 3,490 gross, the second in July to PLN 3,600 gross. This is around PLN 590, or almost 20 percent. more than today. The following day the regulation of the Council of Ministers on the matter should be published. How will this affect employers’ costs and social security contributions?
In recent weeks we have seen a lot of discussion about the minimum wage amount in 2023. It was known that the rate hike would be in two stages. Amounts of PLN 3,350 and PLN 3,500 were announced in May. In the draft ordinance, published in July, the two-step increase was maintained, but its values amounted to PLN 3,383 and PLN 3,450 respectively.
– Today it is already known that the minimum wage will increase twice, first from January to PLN 3,490 and then from July to PLN 3,600 – says Piotr Juszczyk, Chief Tax Adviser of inFakt.
For entrepreneurs who hire workers and pay them the minimum wage, the minimum wage increase will be slightly higher.
Including the ZUS contributions, it will eventually be almost 750 PLN, almost a quarter more than today. So companies will have to increase their wage budgets next year. It should also be remembered that inflation combined with rising wages will mean … even higher inflation.
