a severely burned agent, power cut in 12 municipalities

The 32-year-old EDF technician was seriously electrified in an accident this afternoon on the Petit-Morne site in Lamentin.

Police said the man received a 63,000-volt shock. The seriously injured officer was burned over 80% of the body. Transported to the Pierre Zobda-Quitman hospital, his vital prognosis is engaged.

A psychological support unit has been set up by EDF. In addition, a police investigation was opened to determine the exact circumstances of this accident.

At the same time, the electricity network had to be interrupted to allow the emergency services to intervene, thus causing a power cut in 12 municipalities of Martinique, in Saint Joseph, Fort-de-France, Le Robert, Le Lamentin, Le François, Ducos, Saint-Esprit, Rivière-Salée, Rivière-Pilote, Sainte-Luce, Le Marin and Sainte-Anne.

30,000 homes are currently without electricity. EDF affirms that an electricity resupply should take place before 6.30 p.m. in these homes.
