A strong hurricane “Haishen” is approaching the southern islands of Japan on Sunday, in preparation for which thousands of people have been ordered to evacuate and hundreds of flights have been canceled.
The Kagoshima authorities have ordered the evacuation of 246,000 people.
Hundreds of flights have been canceled and trains suspended in the region due to the approaching hurricane.
Haishen will be the second hurricane to hit Japan in a week, and meteorologists warn it could turn into a very devastating storm.
A spokesman for the Japan Meteorological Agency this morning called on locals to remain vigilant and evacuate in a timely manner.
Army helicopters have already evacuated about 200 pregnant women and older people from the smaller islands to Kagoshima.
On Kyushu Island, meteorologists forecast up to 600 millimeters of rainfall on Monday and up to 400 millimeters of rainfall on Shikoku Island. A hurricane can also cause floods.
